Seniors Expo in Autumn – March 2023

    Seniors Expo in Autumn

The Seniors Expo in Autumn, COTA ACT’s first major event in 2023, will be presented on Wednesday 15 March 2023, between 10.00am and 3.30pm in the Budawang Pavilion and Parkes Room, located near the front entrance gates to Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC), off Flemington Road in Mitchell.

We will again present two large-scale Expos – one in Autumn and one later on in Spring, that are designed to inspire, inform and foster social connections, and create the opportunity for over 136 stallholders representing business, government agencies and community organisations, to forge strong and effective links with older Canberrans.

The Budawang Pavilion will provide a welcoming atmosphere in a relaxed and purpose-designed showcase environment, enabling expo exhibitors to promote services and increase awareness of their products, in just one day.

The Parkes Room, located adjacent to the Budawang Pavilion, will feature a music program consisting of seven ‘pocket’ performances, each of 25 minutes duration, during the time period 11.00am – 3:00pm. There will be seating for over 500 patrons at each performance to enjoy this diverse music program.

The performances are free to Expo patrons and include two ‘singalong’ interactive music concerts, presented by entertainers Shortis and Simpson, featuring songs from famous Broadway and West End Musicals, with song lyrics projected upon large screens in the Parkes Room.

Elvis impersonator, Andrew Leonard, will present: ‘Elvis in the 50s’ and ‘Elvis – Live in Las Vegas’. A third music performance by Andrew will feature a music tribute to Johnny Cash. As another part of our diverse and vibrant music program, Canberra jazz singer and pianist Leisa Keen, will perform two music tributes: ‘Love Songs of the 60s’ and ‘Love Songs of the 70s’.  Patrons can choose which, or all, of these programs to attend on the day.

Other special features at the Expo include a Green Hub for gardening enthusiasts with Tracey Bool.

A Hobby Hub will feature model railway displays and wood crafts for older Canberrans who are seeking information on hobbies that are available to them in the ACT.

Major sponsors ActewAGL will present a Smart Energy Hub from their stalls inside the pavilion and will offer free demonstration drives in the latest EV’s, from the front car park of the pavilion.

Major sponsor Sleeptime will be offering the latest beds from their stall in the centre of the pavilion, whilst new sponsor Nurse Next Door will have their little pink car, filled with coloured balloons on display – the person with the closest guess of how many balloons will win a Samsung tablet.

Media sponsors Canberra Weekly and Mix 106.3 will be on hand throughout the day with giveaway prizes, and Services Australia will be on hand to offer the latest advice on aged care and potential scams for older Australians.

Transport Canberra and Canberra Metro will again offer older Canberrans free public transport on the day and there is free parking and disabled parking for expo patrons.

All of this for a gold coin (or note) donation entry!
